Spohn Performance 207: Spohn Rear Lower Control Arms - Tubular Adjustable with Del-Sphere Pivot Joint/Poly Combo 1982-2002 GM Firebird V8 / V6

Spohn Performance 207 - Spohn Rear Lower Control Arms - Tubular Adjustable with Del-Sphere Pivot Joint/Poly Combo 1982-2002 GM Firebird V8 / V6. The control arm bushings on F-Body vehicles have a significant impact on your vehicle’s ride, comfort, handling, acceleration, noise and vibration. When the vehicle leans (rolls) in a turn, one side of the chassis moves up relative to the rear axle and the other side moves down. The control arms must twist to allow for the axle to articulate, this causes the control arm bushings to bind. If this bind becomes excessive, it will raise the rear wheel rate and produce sudden and uncontrolled changes in handling such as snap oversteer.

The factory minimizes this suspension bind by using compliant rubber bushings. These soft bushings help accommodate the necessary motion of the control arms during body roll. However, the rubber bushings do not provide much in the way of forward and aft support which can cause wheel hop during hard acceleration and braking.

It is common to replace the stock rubber control arm bushings with polyurethane bushings to resolve the shortcomings of the factory's soft rubber bushings. Polyurethane bushings eliminate wheel hop, reduce axle deflection, and improve straight line traction. However, the downside of polyurethane bushings is they prevent the necessary movement of the control arms during body roll, which in turn produces significant binding in the suspension when the vehicle is cornering. The polyurethane bushings also place high stresses on the control arm mounts on the vehicle. Polyurethane bushed control arms do not allow for rotation of the control arm during cornering because of the stiffness of the bushings

Del-Sphere Pivot Joints:

The Spohn Performance Del-Sphere pivot joint solves the shortcomings of the factory rubber and aftermarket polyurethane bushings. Our Del-Sphere pivot joint incorporates a spherical ball which is surrounded by delrin bushing cups. This combination allows the control arm to articulate like a spherical rod end (28 degrees of available rotation) during cornering but the spherical ball does not allow the bushing to deflect during acceleration. This provides for great straight line traction like polyurethane bushed control arms but remains completely bind free like a spherical rod end during cornering for predictable traction in the corners.

Build Specifications:

  • 1.25 x .095 wall DOM tubing
  • Stronger, yet lighter than stock
  • 3/4 Del-Sphere Pivot Joints
  • CNC machined through sleeve and zinc plated steel spacers keep the Del-Sphere ends perfectly centered inside of the vehicle mounting bracket
  • Polyurethane bushed (fluted) ends equipped with grease fittings for easy lubrication
  • Right hand and left hand threaded male/female CNC machined 4140 chrome moly adjuster allows for easy on-car adjustment
  • Ships to you jig set at OEM length
  • TIG welded 4130N chrome moly threaded tube adapters
  • Re-uses OEM mounting hardware, no need to drill out your car's LCA mounting bracket holes
  • Available powder coated in your choice of the above colors
These combo ended LCAs will still wipe out most bind, yet keep the road noise increase minimal for a street driven car. The Del-Sphere pivot joints provide for bind-free handling performance. The fluted polyurethane bushed ends are mounted onto the chassis (floor) mount for maximum road noise insulation

4130N Upgrade: The ultimate in bullet-proof lightweight strength, 100% TIG welded 4130N chrome moly construction! Same as above, but constructed entirely from 4130N chrome moly tubing.

SPOHN recognizes the importance of parts like the adjustable torque arm that attaches between the rear axle housing and the chassis and is needed to maximize rear grip and help with straight line traction, cornering and acceleration, always important but extremely important at the track and In inclement weather. SPOHN PERFORMANCE put their experienced team to work and developed products like the Cross member mounted and adjustable torque arm that can be easily installed because it is a bolt on system and provides an adjustable pinion angle and available for a potpourri of vehicles. Another indication of SPOHN’s innovation and impressive quality is their sui generis K Member designed to perform on even the toughest tracks by affording considerable savings in weight and at the same time assuring strength and rigidity to help the everyday driver with their driving demands. And for you Camaro racing aficionados who want to avoid torque steer and body roll at the starting line SPOHN developed the Pro-Drag racer anti roll sway bar that is much bigger in diameter and considerably stronger because it is manufactured with solid 4140 heat treated spring grade chrome moly steel coined as one piece and installation is a breeze with the bolt in installation. Another example of SPOHN’s innovation and thought to customer needs is the SPOHN Manual Rack & Pinion Kit that, unlike others, does not require you to have your spindle hole drilled out for the rod end to spindle adapters, and because it weighs considerably less than your car’s factory heavy power steering rack, pup and shed you will give yourself an extra edge on the track or in other performance driving venues. Spohn 2010-11 Camaro Front & Rear Tubular Sway Bars Set
5 Stars No body roll, Date: 6/20/2015

By: SS demon
Ownership: 1 month - 1 year
Easy install, recommend a lift. You will need to jack up the engine, the old front sway bar wouldn''t come out so we had to cut it in half. New front sway bar went in with no issues. I used my stock links, been on for 5k with no issues. You will need to purchase the bmr rear sway bar brackets to insure the stock ones do not break due to being flimsy. These bars really keep you in the corners!!!

Current Mods:
Spohn sway bars, bbk long tube headers, stainless works muffler deletes, vararam cold air intake, bmr sway bar brackets.

Spohn Tubular Tunnel Brace 1993-02 Camaro V8
5 Stars Spohn Tunnel Brace , Date: 4/25/2012

By: Anonymous
Ownership: 1 day - 1 week
The stock tunnel brace on my Camaro was a joke. Was just a thin piece of stamped steel you can actually bend with your hand. The Spohn tunnel brace really stiffened up the chassis by itself and stopped the majority of "wiggles" associated with convertibles (before I installed the sub-frame connectors which ended all "wiggles"). I recommend this product.

Current Mods:
UMI 3-point sub-frame connector (convertible), Spohn tunnel brace, Spohn strut tower bar

Spohn Adj. Torque Arm - Trans. Mounted 1993-02 Camaro V8
4 Stars torque arm, Date: 10/15/2010

By: jksz28
Ownership: 1 week - 1 month
This torque arm is far better then the stock arm. I had to replace the stock because it cracked and bent. When getting this spohn arm you can clearly tell why it's so much better then the stock one. Even if your car is stock its far to dangerous to run with the factory torque arm. In fact I'd say its life threatening. Oh! and I did notice an improvement in cornering.

Current Mods:
magnaflow catback exhaust, pacesetter LT headers with y-pipe, slp cold intake, spohn adj torque arm

Spohn Adj Torque Arm Poly Bushing Mount TH400 Trans. Retrofit (short tail) 1982-92 Camaro V8
4 Stars Killer Retro-Fit, Date: 2/19/2009

Ownership: more than 1 year
I really love how easy this x-member went in and bolted to the car. The adj t/a makes pre-load a snap. The whole set up just looks sexy sittin' under there in black. The only thing I might change is the fact that there is no way to get a socket on the bolts for the trans mount to bolt it to the tailshaft, a challenge to get a wrench on it. The access holes have to be drilled out big enough to get a socket on them. Please let me know if there is a different way. I will definitely be buying more Spohn products for this dirty bird. Sub frame connectors are next. Need a good sized decal to put on the car also. (Wink Wink)

Current Mods:
496 Hp/542lb-ft 383, Wilsons Transmissions TH400 w/ rev valve body, killer shift kit (snap ur head off & put in the back seat w/a smile u cant chissel off) & a Wilson's 10" 3500 stall. MSD Digital 6+ box. Spohn trans mount w/adj t/a. Heddman full tube headers, 3" pipe to Super 44's dumped @ the rear floor pan. '88 IROC rear end w/ disc brakes, True-Trac Posi, Richmond 4.10's. Six point cage.
